Kathy Lopes

Kathy Lopes is the Past President of the Greater Boston Association of Black Social Workers and a member of NABSW for over 20 years. 
 
She is a licensed clinical social worker and educator who currently serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for a large school district in Massachusetts. She also holds a longstanding adjunct faculty role at her alma mater, Simmons University School of Social Work, teaching courses on racism, policy and leadership.
 
Previously, Lopes was appointed as the Assistant Commissioner at the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and is a sought-after guest lecturer and public speaker on topics of cultural humility, racial identity and antiracism. Most recently, she co-authored her first published book, Change the Narrative: How to Foster an Antiracist School Culture in Your School.
 
Lopes received her MSW from Simmons College and her BA from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
